GRAMMAR – Collocations with off

off color = somewhat indecent or in poor taste
“That joke you told was a little off color”
off duty = when you stop work
“What time does the doctor go off duty?”
off guard = unprepared
“He was caught off guard by her question.”
off -road = when a means of transport is suitable for all terrains
“He has an off-road motorbike.”
off season = when a time is less busy
“You can get some great hotel discounts if you stay off season.”
finish off = to end something
“We finished off the meal with a delicious dessert.”
break off = end a relationship
“After the fight they decided to break off their engagement.”
give off = emit a smell (usually bad)
“That fish I made last night gave off a horrible smell.”
